Gw finds and Finished Projects

Well, you all were right about the problem with the portraits~ different frames. I wasn't expecting that and was very disappointed! I wanted to keep the look very Colonial, so staggering the frames won't work for me. I think I found the solution. I painted the Washington frame on the edges where it was much more distressed than the Lincoln frame. That helped a lot. The I moved them apart a bit and put a pewter sconce in between them. Now I'm happy with them and I don't think it's noticeable at all.
I also made my weekly stop at Goodwill and found a few things. The first is one I'm very excited about. I have been looking for a frame that my Declaration of Independence would fit into and haven't had any luck. I knew when I saw this framed picture that the frame was just the right size. I took it all apart, painted and sanded it and it's just perfect. I saw some new framed documents like this in our prim store here in town priced for $60 and I like mine even better! It looks great hanging right near George and Abe.
I also found a clock with a rusty star hanger on the front. I unscrewed the star and took it off. The clock was already black, so I sanded it a bit and stained it. I hung it up in my room. Then I decided to cut the bottom of it off straight across. The shape at the bottom just bugged me~ it looked like a guy in speedos :-) Here it is before~

And after~
I painted the star hanger that I removed from the clock black and hung it in my room with some seed bags hanging from it. I am starting to add more prim things to my room . I really want a more Colonial look in there eventually. I will have to change it over slowly though. Unless I happen to find a beautiful queen size coverlet and colonial swag curtains at GW, but I don't see that happening!:-)
Next I found this little pedestal bowl that I painted and stained
and this little black candle holder that sits on the table by my bed. So it was another good GW day!
Paige had a hair appointment in Plattsmouth on Tuesday and that means I got to peek in Wildhorse Antiques. Paige tries to be patient in there, but she thinks it's kind of creepy( I don't), so I try to be fast. I found this little candle shelf with no price on it and she gave it to me for $5. Good enough for me! That was all I bought there.
Wednesday night while Paige was at gymnastics I ran over to Lowes to get some wood to make a dough board for my stove top. I have been wanting to make one for quite a while, but have put it off. We got home around 5:30 and being the impatient person that I am when it comes to home decor projects, I headed out to the garage and had it done and on my stove top by 8:30. I LOVE how it turned out! I'm so glad I finally got that done.
Yesterday, I took Paige and her friend Abby to Coco Key, a water resort in Omaha. We had a fun time. It has a nice, beachy ,islandy feel . Just the break from cold weather that we needed. Later that afternoon when we got home, I decided that I needed a sign for my room to go over the mirror. I painted this Kindred Spirits sign to hang there. I will be adding this sign to my selling blog also. So that is what I have been doing this week. This weekend I plan to work on a few things for my giveaway that I will post on April 2. I hope you all have a great weekend!

You have been one busy girl. I keep telling everyone that my GW must be the only one that doesn't have "good" stuff. You were very lucky with your finds at GW. The clock is funny - but now I can't get that image out of my mind!!!!

Have a great weekend. ~Ann

Love it all:) The pictures look great father apart with the sconce in the middle...I can't notice it now either! I love all the GW finds too...I think our here just doesn't have much housewares, more clothing than anything:( And I can't believe you whipped up that stove board that fast! My brother has lots of saws and woodworking tools at his house...I can use them any time I want. I'm just a little intimidated! But I see all the neat stuff you and everyone else makes, so I have lots of inspiration:) Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

Have a great weekend! hugs, Linda

Janae, you could turn the "speedo" part upside down and pound cement nails into it and make it a holder for those skinny lantern light candles. I'm amazed at all of your GW finds--lucky you. You did such a great job on your dough board too.

I had to laugh at your comment about the clock. That was too funny. It looks great now. I can't even tell the frames are different anymore. They also look great. Heck everything looks great. I love the stove board. You are good and fast. I just love everything.

Your daughter looks just like you!

Who ever invented Speedo's?

I love the expression a man in a speedo...you got me to chuckle over that one :) But I have to admit that the clock does look much better squared off.

You hit the jackpot with all your goodies from the GW store. And I love how you re-did everything. So prim! And I find your prints look terrific, you did an excellent job!

Your sure are one busy lady though and does woodwork...my hubby would never let me touch any of those tools because he said I would end up cutting off a body part. No confidence or what...LOL. Actually I have to admit, those tools do scare me :) But I really love your dough board. It looks great!

As the other ladies said...I love everything!!! I can not pick just one thing because they are all so beautiful!

Have a great weekend and I can't wait to see what you do next :)

Everything is fantastic. What great finds. Love the dough board. You sure get things done. You have such a good eye for decorating and for making everything look so prim. What a great idea about the clock. I probably never would have thought of that. I love these blogs they are so full of information and very talented people. I wish we just could all get together some day. What a blast.

Janae - As always your blog is so enjoyable to look at. I love everything that you posted about tonight. The Kindred Spirits sign looks great, your clock is awesome and how do you make your pantry cakes because they look GREAT!! I also am totally loving your stove top board, I need one so terribly bad. I bought something at an antique mall hoping I could re-do it to work like one, but it was about 2 inches short (my luck). Do you sell those on your selling blog?

Hope you have a great weekend.

Hugs,
Lisa

Janae,

You did really well at GW! I love it all! You also just reminded me that I have a framed Declaration of Independence. How could I forget that? And it's already framed in black!

I do like the clock better now...I like straight lines too....no speedo stuff! :) And you're so clever...I sure can't tell any difference on the frames now and the sconce between them is perfect.

The bread board is great. You work fast. I don't attempt anything with a saw...at least I haven't yet...never say never, right?

Cute picture of Paige and her friend! Glad you all had a day of recreation!

Have a great evening,
Tammy

WOW! You hit the jackpot with thrift finds! I am so jealous of that clock! I have been looking for something similar for my livingroom! And it looks even better once you trimmed the bootom!

George looks much better too. I think you concealed the problem well, and the Declaration of Independance also looks great! Your home is gorgeous!

And you did an awesome job on your stove board! Looks so nice the way you have everything displayed.

We are so much alike about being impatient to get things done. I'm the same way! But I am trying to take my time with the stitchery I'm working on. I'm not good at it and I have to take my time!
LOL!

I sure have enjoyed this post. Have a great weekend!

Hey Janae, I absolutely LOVE what you did with all of your GW finds. Even the "speedo" clock. TOO FUNNY!!! I literally giggled out loud when I read that.

I think I really need to start going to local store....ummm, that saying I would even know what to do with my "finds". Only if I had 1/2 of your talent!!

Hugs!! Carrie ♥
